10th graders Gustavo Perez and Jaime Lara participated in the State Finals this Friday and Saturday (05/13-05/14). The event was hosted at Millikan University, Decatur.
Over the two days, Gustavo and Jaime attended three separate lectures from the University professors, took a tour of the observatory and spoke with an Astronomy professor at the department. They especially enjoyed a private session with a senior in the chemistry department where they learned about her research on synthesis of artificial self-healing human skin!
Overall the event was a great experience for them. They have worked a lot, and the awards they received are well deserved.
Jaime Lara received a GOLD medal for his project on “The Effect of Pressure on Electrical Conductivity of Graphite.” He also earned $2,000 scholarship toward tuition payments at Millikin University.
Gustavo Perez received a SILVER medal for his project on “The Effect of Phosphate on Aquatic Life”. He also earned $1,500 scholarship toward tuition payments at Millikin University.
We are all very proud of their accomplishments!
